[pct-l] Pre-planning a thru hike

Hello everybody!

I am new to this site. I have been checking in for
just a couple of weeks.

My wife and I completed a thru hike of the AT last
year and are now starting to plan a thru hike of the
PCT. We probably won't go 'til '09, but the planning
is half the fun.

I am wondering if I can get some advice from any of
you on some (probably common) questions???
What parts of the Trail if any would we need a bear
canister? ice pick? crampons? Any recommendation on
carrying portions of guide books / maps? Any good
planning books? Any significant differences between
the AT and PCT that I might not be aware of???
Any ideas that anyone would be willing to share would
be appreciated.

Thanks!
