While there is nothing wrong with using tree blazes to mark the trail, every 
thirty feet is *way* too close together.  Most of the ones I see here in 
Oregon are spaced a lot farther, fifty to a hundred yards apart, or closer 
if the trail takes a sharp turn.

They are a hell of a lot less intrusive than a bright piece of plastic, or 
marks left from a complete idiot using a Sharpie.
