Yesterday, April 13, I packed from Campo to Boulder Oaks. Water report as
follows:
After crossing Highway 94, you cross the railroad tracks. About 2.5 miles
later is a creek with water flowing about 1 inch deep. My topo does not
give this creek a name. Location 547002mE 3607912mN
No other water until Lake Morena. Hauser is still dry, though there is a
note from a hiker on 4/7 that says there were small pools a short distance
up-stream. I did not go to investigate.
North of Lake Morena, there is no water at the Cottonwood Creek first
crossing (at the road). Further north on the trail, about a quarter mile,
there is water in the creek. The water is visible from the trail. There is
no need to bush-wack to find it. Eventually the trail crosses the creek up
another mile. Water is here too. I would consider the water in Cottonwook
Creek in the entire valley suspect due to nearby cattle grazing.
Spigot water is on at Boulder Oaks Campground within a couple miles of
Cottonwood Creek. I did not check all the faucets, only one. When first
entering the park it is dead ahead on the back-side of a small post. The
faucet is facing away from you and may not be readily visible. I suspect if
one is on, they are all on.
