[pct-l] The Fantastic Alcohol Fuel Stove Contest

This is to announce the Fantastic Alcohol Fuel Stove Contest sponsored by
Greg Hummel and Tom Reynolds. Your challenge is to build the best stove and
display it at the ADZPCTKO in late April.

To enter you must do the following
1-Post instructions on how to build your stove must be e-mailed to Tom
Reynolds by April 21 2000.
2-Someone [not necessarily you] must show up and demonstrate your stove at
ADZPCTKO
3-Please e-mail Tom Reynolds if you plan to compete

Stove will be judged on the following criteria:

1-Weight. Stoves over 4 ounces will be penalized. Stoves weighing less than
3 ounces will not get lots of extra points for weighing less than 3 ounces.
2-Assembly. Stoves must be made of easily available parts using normal
skills and hand tools. Construction instructions and Bill of Materials must
be presented to the judges. Stoves requiring hard to find parts or difficult
fabrication skills will be penalized. Additional points will be awarded for
elegant simplicity.
3-Cost. Stoves that require more than $10 in parts will be penalized. Stoves
costing less than $5 in parts will not get lots of extra points for costing
less than $5
4-Operation. Stoves are expected to boil water. Boil time, setup time and
cleanup time [including sooty pot] will be considered. Safety issues such as
pot support and ground scorching will also be considered.

Judging:
All categories and sub categories are NOT equal. Judges will NOT know the
category weightings. Tom Reynolds/Greg Hummel will appoint judges at
ADZPCTKO and supply judges with a category and sub-category matrix. Judges
will be asked to score each category 1-10. A software program will calculate
the winning score.

Prize:
First for the best. No second. Something VERY cool.
