Several months ago, there was once again a swapping of info
concerning  mosquitos, flies, DEET, and Permethrin.  (an appreciative
nod towards Peter)  I stumbled across the following page.

Among many, several points interested me.  The article states that
Permethrin is a better tick bite preventative than DEET.  It also
gives instructions for impregnating clothing and netting with
Permethrin.  And, this product is reported to be non-staining, and
non- distructive to synthetic fabrics, including nylon, plastic, and
silk.

There is additional interesting reading regarding DEET and mosquito
netting, and of course, the have stuff to sell.  So if you are
interested in better living through chemistry, check it out.
