I take my wife and son on every hike. I have no Plan A and Plan B, just Plan
A/B. Several couples I met were hiking the entire trail this way --
together. They both loved it.

If you aren't in that situation then you should try to get in that
situation. I would recommend taking your wife to a couple of High Sierra
Camps this summer. Maybe she'll fall in love with the beauty. You can also
hike most, if not all, of Section A and spend each night in a camper,
campground or even a motel. You just need someone to drive the support van.
