Re: [pct-l] Re: pct-l-digest V1 #849

Please do not schrew my words, question by motivation, or attribute actions
to me that I did not do.

I have not said that filters do not work!

I hope that everybody will use filters, and learn that they may have
limitations.

Most of us consider piped water and campground water to be safe(campers in
campgrounds do not use filters)

I do not wash my pots with unfiltered water, nor gulp water as I swim
(swimming is a luxury that most thruhikers have little time for).

I can tell the difference between food poisoning, general ulceritis, and
Giardia. I have had 2 years of nursing as well as a lot of experience in
the backcontry and abroad

The instructions that came with my filter did not tell how to look for
microscopic damage, only that if the filter had been visibly damaged( had a
visible hole), it should be replaced. There was no mention of a
manufacturing standard. There was no mention of damaged that may be done
by say excessive pressure while pumping, or other circumstances.

the language of this poster sounds familiar.

say filters don't work, it turns out they didn't use a filter 100% of the
time, like this poster. Sometimes they contaminate a filter element too, or
they get dirty water by washing their pans in a creek or swallow some when
taking a bath. Also some people blame all their bellyaches on the water
when there are other causes besides.

and when you should replace parts. You have to take care of them right and
they wear out too like everything else. Sue
