Greg, since I saw this as a post-to-the-list, I'm replying to you
publicly also....

When you and Tom first made the announcements of your water-stashing
project, some folks voiced objections to the "environmental" aspects of
leaving plastic jugs etc out in the Countryside. You guys quite properly
fired back that water-stashing is done all the time in the desert and
assured everybody that all the detritus would be picked up as soon as the
thruhikers passed through - which was, what, April, early May?

Since you two have often posted many "thanks" to each other in the months
after your 4/17 party down at Lake Moreno, I (and others probably)
figured the leftover plastic etc had long since been retrieved, or that
you would be keeping close tabs on any ongoing projects.

Would you or Tom please drive one of your air-conditioned vehicles down
there this weekend and T.C.B. yourselves? It should be obvious that Bob
Reiss, who's worked so hard and given so much support to you two and
others, will have a plateful starting on foot at Campo in the present
heat/humidity. I hope-to-gosh he left without seeing your post, for the
man seems so selfless and eager to be of use that he actually might take
your request seriously. (Yes, I _know_ you were "only asking" him, but
why even do that, jeez.....)

Just got back from a long, tiring backpack, and am feeling rather guilty
that I didn't try harder to discourage Bob from his hike-plans, frankly.
All I did was present a mild warning, then got distracted with my own
agenda - and I didn't want to be a party-pooper. I really, really hope
he's gonna be all right.... bj
