[pct-l] Going Solo

Are there any hard figures on the number of individuals
who go solo each year? I would imagine the majority of
us do a solo hike, but the numbers would be interesting.

In any case, does anyone experience pressures or warnings
from family members regarding a solo hike? In my case,
my family, although skepticaly supportive, is primariliy
concerned about my safely hiking alone. Had I had a partner
this early in the planning stages, their concerns would turn
180 degrees. This still doesn't stop my planning
and preparation and although skeptical, my mother will
be assiting with the sewing of some clothing/bag/etc.

Has anyone else going solo experienced this situation?
