[pct-l] Section B Hikers -- take note

A local San Diego TV Station (CH 7/39) reports the following (4/11/98):

"Campground closed to protect toad

CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST --A campground and 600 acres around it will be
closed until at least July (due) to several endangered species, including the
arroyo southwestern toad.

The Indian Flats Campground and neighboring parkland will be off-limits to
visitors so the small, gray-green toad can breed in nearby streams, officials
say.

Biologists from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will monitor the area as
the toads mate.

... "

The Indian Flats Campground is shown on map B2 and described in text on page
78 of the guide (see "Water access:" in the left-hand column).

The PCT does not go through the campground itself, but the boundaries of the
" ... 600 acres around it" were not defined.

If your plans include a water or camping stop at Indian Flats Campground,
perhaps you'd better come up with an alternate plan.

This being a Sunday, I'm unable to find more details, but I will call the CNF
on Monday and post an update on Monday.
