One other note.... In europe people use alcohol stoves for winter camping
all the time.  The trick is to pre-warm the stove.  Trangia sells a
pre-warmer for their stove sets (which are not ultralight, though).  I've
used a Trangia Westwind (just a burner and a stand) stove at temperatures in
the upper 20s, and was able to get it lit by spilling alcohol around the
rim.

Also, even a gasoline stove won't be much good on snow unless you have
something to set it on.
