thing again...but I will use it on the JMT. One alternative I considered
was mailing it home from Mammoth or Vermillion Resort. I will probably
take it the whole way.
Keep in touch. I am calling for my permit on Tuesday. We have been told
only to expect 10 or so miles a day because of all the passes etc. I
personally can't imagine only going 10 miles a day....but me and my
buddies are in our late 40's...so who knows. The guy who told me 10
miles also had a huge pack....60 or so lbs. >>
Last summer was the first for me since reading Jardine's book and practicing
some of the techniques. Having crossed the threshold of proto-Geezer, this
has really changed my level of enjoyment, safety, and length of travel on
shorter trips. So the idea of adding 2.5 lbs just fries me. Down side of
stealth strategy is not being able to commune with other hikers at end of day.
Any input on need for second resupply point would be helpful. Bear boxes
might eliminate need for can south of Woods Creek crossing. Quien sabe.
