[pct-l] PCT vs MT Everest

Most of the PCT hikers will fail in their Quest to thu-hike the trail this
year. More people have climbed Mt. Everest than have thu-hiked the PCT. Around
400 known thu-hikers vs around 600 Everest climbers. Many because of being
young and cocky and thinking they known it all, some fail from bad luck(
ankles, sickness but rarely broken equipment ) some get home sick. The first 3
weeks will weed out alot, also the last 3 weeks before the border takes it,s
toll. The weather is a big factor for thu-hikers. If you look at PCT register,
some years have many completions with good weather, other years with bad
weather, few will complete the trip. ( same as Mountain Climbing, good weather
,you win,bad weather, the Mountain wins) This years May 1st start could look
alot like a Seattle 10K run. A wise hiker will start a week or two earlier.
This will buy you time to have an extra layover day per month. The PCT won't
get like a 5 month death march and you can catch your breath with a movie in
ashland or whatever. This will allow you to keep sane and finish. I will
repeat this, Washinton is getting HEAVY snow this year and Southbound hike is
ill advised. Good luck to the 20% of you that will Finish this year. Monte
