This is generally the case. It appears that spring/early summer snow
levels in northern CA are normally much lower than the high Sierra at an
equivelant time, so jumping north to head south would certainly result
in more snow than you would want. It looks like this year's pattern is
for a larger snow year as you head north, lighter as you head south.
