[pct-l] Introduction...

My name is jeffrey Olson and I did this once before. I believe that when
the discussion list started up it was suggested everyone who joined do a
short biography. I belong to enough lists that I may be mistaken.

I'm 46 and have been backpacknig for 35 of those years. I stumbled on the
existence of the PCT in 1990, and a light went off. My then-partner and I
decided to hike from Lassen to Whitney in 1991 and we made it as far as
South Tahoe before I blew out my ACL. I quit smoking the morning we started
the hike. And becasue this was her first hike ever, we carried way too
muchy stuff. I started with 72 pounds, she with 52. Reading Jardine's book
set off another light.

I'm currently working on my phd in social work at UW and will be beginning a
third career next fall at a university somewhere near mountains. My seven
years of section hiking has created a "trailspace" I go to at least once a
day. All it taks is a view of the Olympics, or Rainier, or Baker or
Cascades to take me back to trail moments. I'm irrevocably changed by the
three months or so I've spent on the trail...
