[pct-l] Hiking in December, Talkin' Bad Food Blues

When I finished the PCT in November of 1996, the weather was pretty nice.
Around Big Bear City things were getting pretty cold, I was having to
develop an intimate relationship with my water bottles at night, I had to
sleep with them, otherwise they would get lonely and freeze up until noon
the next day. It kind of sucks being terribly thirsty and your water is
frozen.

It had been showing up around the Angeles-Crest highway, by the time I got
there the snow had melted again. I spent Thanksgiving up on Fuller Ridge
in a storm. At least Mr. Pete Fish had the trail clear there. :)

I couldn't really get my food cooked since my stove quit working. I was
forced to use a can of Sterno, coathanger, and foil. Boy the naughty words
spewed from my mouth since I knew that everytime the flame blew out...it
was that much longer until I got to eat.

If you are without a stove, never ever ever ever get the idea of soaking
raw pasta overnight to make it tender in the morning. It is the most foul
and unearthly taste known to man. Next time the wife has you slapping up
wallpaper in the bathroom, eat some wallpaper paste and that will give you
a good idea what raw & tender pasta tastes like.

Everyone talks about their favorite foods, anyone have any food ideas that
were terribly wrong? My panacakes were a disaster, Brick's Dehydrated Fart
Chili Chunks (tm) should be banned by the Geneva Convention, corn pasta and
hummus got to be disgusting, and Powerbars could use a good PowerHurl into
the garbage can.
