<I made it all the way to the Columbia River with only having been <rained
on once at night but that's exceptionally
<lucky.
Last year we never hit rain until the middle of August by MT Bachelor in
Central OR. There were thunder storms every evening for over a week. These
short but strong storm systems produced over 2000 lightning strikes and
caused a forest fire about 80 miles north of us. The hail was severe and
hard on the horses. We have a VE-25 North Face expedition tent and I was
wondering if it was going to be damaged. October, we woke to a full out
blizzard and two foot of snow. Visibility was about 20 foot and we had to
blindly ride down very steep mountain sides out of the snow. We Then didn't
know where to go or what to do. The season was over! We then rode back into
the snow over the Cook and Green Pass of the PCT to Seiad Valley. We went to
the Wildwood Lodge in Seiad and had a wonderful welcome. We rented a horse
trailer and went back to OR where we found work and a place to wait for the
snow to melt. I hiked close to the PCT last week searching for a rifle I
lost in the blizzard last October. This was by Copper Butte north of Seiad
(map R2). Lots of snow up there! I sure wish Jethro and Daisy May lots of
luck! Two brave souls indeed. I am staying just below the PCT about 30 miles
North of Seiad and it is cold and may even snow tonight.
