[pct-l] Re: pct-l-digest V1 #492

Tom Best that he was disappointed that Brick wasn't acknowledging the First
Amendment rights of posters. The First Amendment is a check on government,
prohibiting it from making laws that restrict freedom of speech. A private
enterprise, such as this web site, is free to censor or restrict speech in
any way it pleases. The appropriate response to such censoring or
imposition of restrictions is to do what Tom Best did, cease participating
and withdraw your support. If the restrictions or censoring is too
oppressive, others will act similarly and the web site will suffer. That's
the theory of freedom of speech as our Constitution deals with it.
Government's powers are limited, as opposed to private activity, which is
supposed to be free from intrusion as much as possible. So Brick doesn't
have to acknowledge anybody's free speech rights unless he wants to.
