[pct-l] re: zzip stoves



a friend of mine did the AT in 92 and PCT in 96 with the same zzip stove.
of course, he loved it.  i always thought it was too much bother, and he
thought that a whipserlight was too much bother, so go figure.  so, yes, it
is possible to thurhike with a zzip, but i think it takes a special kind of
person to do it  :).  he didn't mind smoke, and had a meticulous system of
bags and stuff sacks that kept the rest of his gear clean.  on the PCT, if
he thought he'd be above treeline or in low-wood areas, he gathered fuel
where it was abundant and carried it with him.  still lighter than white gas.

it was great to be camping with him when the bugs were bad!
