[pct-l] RE:Reply to [so_california_backpackers] Snow info desired
Snow pack in Sierras is 138% of normal.
Edison Lake and surrounding lakes, completely frozen over.
Snow pack majority is over 9000' this year vs last when it was around 7000'
If April is warm late snow fall will melt off quick, early snow pack was very water rich 8 to 1 ratios and because of that fact and the compression from additional snow pack will make for very "icy" conditions on north facing slopes. (Be Prepared!)
Because of the higher snow pack stream crossings are expected to be more reasonable as the higher elevation snow will melt on a smaller scale per day. However they will still be high and again be prepared. Read "Mountaineering Freedom of the Hills" for techniques.
We'll see everyone at Trail Fest

Phil,
Brick took a few photos of a ski trip on Mt Laguna recently.
There was snow, but nothing requiring snow shoes. I'd imagine that you'd
hit snowline soon after descending toward Pioneer Mail. (others can
confirm)
Wrightwood got rain last night. This storm isn't as cold as the last
few. I can see Santiago/Modjeska from my desk. No snow on these peaks.
Dave just e-mailed me. Mammoth just passed the 500" mark for this
year... And snow is still falling.

I have plans to walk a piece of the PCT in Section A from Pioneer Mail
Trailhead to Scissors Crossing tomorrow and Friday. What is the snow
condition at the higher end (5200-5400')? If you live near there or have
been there in the last few days, I would appreciate your sharing any
knowledge you have with regard to this question. Thank you, in advance,
for your help.
