I'm thinking outside of the box here, but wouldn't it be more cost effective
to do a group purchase on a means of removing material from the Earth's
core, thereby reducing gravity?  Less gravity means your old, big, heavy
gear is now ultralightweight - a win-win scenario, saving money *and*
restoring comfort..
