Just got off the phone with the owner Dave Harrison
and he'd like it to be known that the Hiker Hut will
be open this year complete with shower, cable tv,
continental breakfast AND Internet access for hikers.
The cost is staying the same as last year...$20 a
night. Apparently, it's uncertain at this time
whether Father Serge will be hosting hikers this year
due to family health issues back east.
I strongly recommend anyone who is thru-hiking or
section hiking through Nor. Cal to stop in
atEtna...awesome little town and Dave and Vicki at
Alderbrook are cool folk.

...and if you have any unforeseen problems let me know and I should be able to help. I am sorry but due to time, distance and the cost of gas ($2.78/gal. at present) I am unable to drive folks from the summit to town and vs. Though we did host a couple who successfully thru hiked the trail last year as they took 2 days off and climbed Shasta. So, numerous things are possible, just not on a daily, long distance basis...wish it could be different.
