Hi, Mouse!
During the winter months in the High Sierra, the avalanche danger is highest
during and within a few days immediately after every snowstorm where
sufficient mass of new snow rests on a prior snow mass it can't bond to. Like a
predator constantly looks for food throughout its day, so too, the winter skier
must constantly watch for, and in some cases listen to, the condition and
stability of the snow pack he/she travels on top of. These are skills that can
be taught, but wisdom of experience and patience of decision far outweigh a
quick weekend course.
Yes, start there. Get some knowledge in your head. But get out and apply
it at different times and in different locations. Your safety lies in your
awareness of your surroundings and what you decide to do with that information.
You do want to return to enjoy another time!
Indeed, it'd very Rad!
