I am too lazy to look after references but these things have been part of my professional education. I try to explain it short:
Many liter water flow through your kidneys constantly. They have a mechanism for reabsorbing water. This mechanism is not only but mainly controlled by Anti Diuretic Hormone (ADH). ADH is produced in a special part of your brain and send by the blood to specific hormonel receptors inside the kidneys.
Humans that don't produce ADH pee about 15 til 30 l or more a day. Some substances block the production of ADH for a special period of time: Caffein, Teein (black Tea), Jasmine Tea, alcohol, also many herbs. It would be too extensive here to name them all. That means: If you drink such a substance you have to pee more and to drink more.
