[pct-l] Tarps

I have been selected to lead a group of 9th graders on a 10 day long hike through the pecos wilderness in new mexico.  They require that everyone use a tarp, no tents.  I have personally never used one before, only read about them.  My question is, which tarp is best for 1 person + gear and why?  Also, what type of groundsheet?
