[pct-l] snow questions; Donner Summit snow clinic

Hi, all!
 
Just back from a Beginner's Quickie, Snow Camping Basics Clinic between  
Hwys. 40 and 80 on Donner Summit.  Temps down to zero at night and very  little 
visability during an 18 inch snowfall. Side trip up to Castle Pass for  lunch 
and some partial dramatic views where temps were in the teens with light  
snowfall. 
 
Recent high temps and abundant sunshine over the last 7 to 10 days reduced  
the pack by a foot (according to locals) and created quite an icy, wet base  
perfect for avalanches if they get more new snow.
 
If you would like to see photos, let us know (don't know how to do that  
yet!).
