[pct-l] Re: Getting to the Trail

Mongo,

Here's a link to the Los Angeles Metro Transit Authority:
ttp://www.mta.net/default.asp at this site, you can enter "LAX" as a
starting point, then enter "Union Station" as your destination; you'll
receive several bus and/or train itineraries. This link,
http://www.wgn.net/~elson/larail/ is a direct link to the Metro Rail system;
unfortunately, it's apparently under some construction and is not currently
available. My understanding of one public transit route between LAX and
Union Station is to board the L.A. Metro Bus "Green Line" shuttle to the
Green Line Metro light rail/subway station. Then take the Green Line,
transfer to the Blue Line, then to the Red Line to get to Union Station. It
will be at least an hour and a half of transit. For more money, you can
simply take a cab to Union Station - might be the simplest. This said, the
train to San Diego is a very pleasant ride. Here's a link to the Amtrak
(train) from Union Station to San Diego (the Pacific Surfliner):
http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Route/Vertica
l_Route_Page&c=am2Route&cid=1081256322013&ssid=132 . Bob Reiss in San
Diego is a trail angel extraordinaire and will help you the rest of the way.

Mongo,

Not sure how to get from LAX to the train station, but if you can get there,
take the Amtrak train to Oceanside, CA and then to San Diego. From there,
connect with Trail Angel Bob Reiss and you'll get to the trail. Amtrak
number is 1-800-872-7245. Not sure how to dial it from NZ; I'm sure the
website will help you.

I was just wondering is it is easy to get all the way to the start (Campo)
once you fly into LAX. I am traveling from New Zealand and I am on a rather
tight time frame ( I am taking leave from work for three months) so is it
best to take some form of transport to San Dieago (grayhound?) and then
another bus to Campo?

thanks

Mongo
