I rented the DVD a couple of weeks ago and in that
viewing there was a scene where Herzog listens to the
actual killing of Treadwell and his girlfriend
(Treadwell had left the cap on the camera,
accidentally or otherwise, when he left to investigate
what was going on outside of the tent).  There was no
shot of Herzog's face...it was shot from behind.  But,
it's evident that Herzog is shaken by what he hears
(who wouldn't be?) when he talks to the woman who now
possesses the tape (an old friend of Treadwell's who
apparently had been given at least some of his tapes
via some kind of will).  It was also clear in that
scene that the woman who was in possession of the tape
 did not want the audio to be heard in the production.
