Depending on this year's snow levels and your start date, those crampons
could be worth their weight in gold as early as Mt. San Jacinto, let alone
the high sierra.......unless you want to do some road walkin' - they could
be vital to your life in a few sections if there's lingering ice ontrail.
Your options are left a little more open with regards to icy conditions if
you're carrying them. Then again you may be experienced in crossing high
mountain passes in snowy conditions, and not need them. You just have to
answer the question yourself, depending on how important it is you stay
ontrail, etc. etc.
