Folks, it looks like Squeaky is going to be successful! His Mom just
called and said that Squeaky had talked to them just 10 minutes ago. He
will be arriving at Springer (southern terminus of the AT) at 1 p.m.
tomorrow, Thursday, Dec 29th. I suspect he called them from Neels Gap, 30
miles north of Springer.

The good news is that his feet aren't hurting any more and he is cruising!

The sad news is that Squeaky's Mom and Dad had brought a laminated banner
and a British flag with them from England and had tied it up with wire on
the top of Springer yesterday. Today they found that some hiker had stolen
both of them, leaving the wires dangling. They rushed to the nearest
Wal-Mart and his Dad spent 6 hours today handcrafting new ones.
Grrr!

I don't know the hour when Squeaky left the monument at Campo - maybe some
of you do - but it was on May 4th. He finishes on Dec 29th. That makes
it 7 months, 3 weeks and 5 days. Incredible! It was a privilege to get
to spend just a few hours with this special young hiker!

Dr Bob
