Switchback,
Regarding cheese and related dairy items, I found a website specializing in
freeze-dried shredded cheeses, sour cream, whole eggs, buttermilk, butter,
etc. as well as everything else that can possibly be freeze-dried. The
website is at beprepared.com -- I think they were originally sort of
survivalist oriented and switched to natural disasters after the Soviet
Union dissolved. So I am thinking of incorporating some of this into my
long-range menu for next year. For instance, you could be enjoying some beef
stroganoff deep in the Sierra while everyone else is forcing down Ramen and
mashed potatoes.
Don't feel bad about lack of response to your wonderful offer. I put out a
recipe contest on this list with the winner receiving one of several quality
alcohol stoves that I had purchased previosuly while in search of the
optimum stove. I had one entry. I sent her the stove of her choice as
promised after waiting two more weeks for additional recipes. No one.
Considering how difficult it is to do a yo-yo compared to sending in your
favorite recipe to this list, I would expect very little response. Of
course, your offer involves a helluva lot more challenge, so perhaps you'll
get some personal achievement type of motivation chiming in soon.
Best of luck...
