[pct-l] Duct Tape
Good evening, Jeff,
Yes, I've used duct tape, and it does an amazingly good job of lining the
inside, back of shoe heels. I did have one sour experience which lead to my
using thin leather the next time on the 805s. I was hiking in a pair of
Brooks runners, and I waited too long before applying the sticky, silver
cure-all. The result was severe chunks of lining crud under the tape, which
wadded up in spite of what I did with the ends. Several times I removed the
mess and re-applied tape, but the adhesive tended to stay and make things
worse. At that point I resolved next time to try the leather to prevent the
problem rather than waiting to cure it. That leather is great, and it's
still there. I still use tape however, only now I apply it before severe
damage has occurred.
Here's a question for everyone: What have you found to be the best
all-round brand of duct tape? Any opinions? Somewhere I once saw a chart
rating the various brands, but I can't remember where I found it. I've used
everything from the big-name brands to the Harbor Freight specials, and I
can't say that name and price is always the best indication.
