[pct-l] re:Trail Markers
To mark or not to mark. The trail that is. That is the question. And
probably a question that will be endlessly debated. And there is no
ultimate answer IMHO. I favor modest signage, enough to assist most
hikers staying on the trail -- such as signs or PCT markers at trail
junctions. However to reduce vandalism and missuse I think NO markers or
signs within say 50 meters of a road.
But this brings in another point -- use it (PCT) or lose it. If the PCT
becomes something only a few can follow then it will lessen the popular
support needed to keep the PCT in existence.
And when one hikes along with high tech gear (fabrics, stoves, etc.) and
guide books, how much is the wilderness experience lessened?
