Amtrak has runs on the Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle that hit Palm Springs from Los Angeles Union Station : www.amtrak.com 

Los Angeles Union Station is a light-rail ride from LAX.  More info at the following:

I'm resuming the PCT near Saddle Junction in November, weather permitting.  
Can anyone suggest a good way to get from LAX to Palm Springs?  The Palm 
Springs aerial tram would take me to within 5 miles of Saddle Junction.
