Alas, we were not able to continue up the trail past Gilmore Lake due to  the 
threat of lightning.  However, if you drop your packs at Gilmore, the  ascent 
is basically straight up to a saddle, then across and up to the  peak...maybe 
take a trail-tested thru-hiker 30 to 45 minutes. The view into  Desolation 
would be about the same as from Dick's Pass but the view into Tahoe  would be 
awesome!
