[pct-l] How to Measure Pack Base Weight?

I go by the Gossamer Gear methods. They have info and gear lists on their site gossamergear.com.
Also Ryan Jordan's lists on backpackinglight.com seem to follow the same philosophy.

I just finished the PCT this week with a pack under five for my last 300 miles, but Glen Van Peski under four??????
Just saw it in their latest newsletter. New ideas to steal!!!

At the gear contest at the kickoff party they don't count food ,fuel, water
and whatever you normally wear or carry in your pockets. When I won it 04 I
had 9 lb 4 oz this year Monty was under 6 lb and I see that Glen Van Peski
from Gossamer gear has a weight of under 4 lb. I'm waiting for the under 1
lb setup.
