The Poodle-Dog Bush got me in 2003! The guidebook
warns hikers about it just south of Walker Pass.
It got me good all over my legs. Those are not
fond memories.

California. Beware the poodle-dog bush, Turricula parryi! It grows
particularly in recently-burned areas, of which we have a few in the
San Bernardino mountains. It has beautiful deep-blue flowers, but
don't touch it! The plant contains chemicals tha irritate the skin.
Smelling it's a no-no, too. Apparently it's been enough of a problem
for hikers that the California Department of Forestry and Fire
Protection issued a warning recently.
