[pct-l] JMT heading South

I will start JMT middle of September in Yosemite adding another part to my 
PCT section-hike and have a few questions:
-  How many hours of daylight can I expect second half of September?
-  My plan is to leave the trail in Onyx on HW178 or Tehachapi HW58 and 
then go to Bakersfield where I pick up a rental car (will later carry on 
to UT). 
   How easy is it to get a lift from the trailhead to Bakersfield on a 
Sunday afternoon (Oct. 2nd)?
-  I am debating if I should take my tarptent or my Sierra Design Ultra 
Lightyear with rainfly. Do I have to expect lots of rainstorms in the 
afternoon 
   and below freezing temperatures at night?
