He was last seen on May 3, had only 4-5 days of food, and was not prepared for heavy weather (a storm hit around that date). Drawing from what we know, it's most likely that he is deceased and his remains are out there somewhere.

What may be tragically ironic is that your idea about temporarily flagging
the trail through this area was shot down by others on the list. Now, in all
likelyhood, even though no one has uttered the word, there's a dead hiker out
there.
Surely, he can't be alive on the mountain can he?
