[pct-l] ice axe question #1,000,000,000,000

You probably won't need it at all in Oregon or Washington.

The high points will be at Crater Lake rim, the Sisters, Three Fingered
Jack, the descent just after Jefferson Park, and the Goat Rocks. Washington
has more high spots, but unless there are just tons of snow very early (July
and August), you will be OK. Typically, there will be snow in the Sisters
until just after July 4th, but you can still get through. The Goat Rocks
always seems to have a snow field that is icy if you hit it at the wrong
time of day. (which could be all day long if the sun isn't out).

So, I'd leave the ice axe at home. You may want some poles, especially if
the streams are swift (actually, something even stronger than poles then).

Check again just before you go to see what the weather has been like.
