[pct-l] Trailname etiquette

No etiquette, no real methods. Some come with people, some are chosen, some are given, and some are earned. You know it's your name when others begin to use it, but especially when you use it yourself. Some names will try to stick to you when you don't want them (one good reason for taking pre-emptive measures).

Trail names are not required, but they certainly add interest. They can be hilarious, quite descriptive, and even provoke thought. Some say that they feel like they are different people out on the trail -- they want to separate themselves and disconnect from the real world left behind. Having trail name helps separate these two lives. And, it certainly helps to have a trail name if their are 25 other Richards on the trail the year you hike.

Mojo is a good name.

aka The Laundress (my chosen name)
aka Saint Donna Our Lady of the Laundry (a given name)
aka Saint D (for short, but please don't spell it STD ;-).

Hey, what's the etiquette for trail/posting names? Is there some kinda
rite of passage to earn one? Who's got the mojo to pick names or do I
just make something up?
