Just saw a piece on the news last night:
Starting Thursday, air travelers who smoke will have to find other ways
to fire up after devices are prohibited on all flights
By MIKE RICE
The Kansas City Star
. . . lighters will be banned from all commercial flights beginning
Thursday.
. . . The ban imposed at all U.S. airports by the federal
Transportation Security Administration prohibits travelers from
carrying butane, Zippo, electric or battery-powered and novelty
lighters past security screening checkpoints.
. . . Air travelers carrying lighters will have to surrender them to
screeners. At some airports, but not at KCI, a private company can ship
lighters to a passenger's home for a fee. If someone regards his
lighter as a valuable memento, aviation security officials strongly
suggest that he leave it at home.
The ban, which the Transportation Security Administration announced in
February, is in response to the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism
Prevention Act of 2004, which President Bush signed in December. The
act requires butane lighters to be added to the list of prohibited
items aboard planes.
Maybe an item for the KO crowd's last minute shopping
