Take some cardboard and duct tape and wrap up the spike and the pick and the adze (anything sharp). Then, you can take two of the USPS shipping boxes and tape them together to form a shell for the ice axe and send that along. There may be better solutions for sending it from home (I had a long cardboard box sitting around), but this is how I sent mine back from Chester in 2003.
