Ski Mountaineers Pass 13120 ft+ - 0.3 mi ESE of Forester Pass -- (36-41-33
-- 118-22-09)
Class 1-2. This pass consists of sand, scree and talus, but during moderate
to heavy snow years
it provides a means for skiers to cross the Kings-Kern Divide without
having to negotiate the cliffs
on the south side of Forester Pass. (listed as Cross-Country Route --- If
the trail is covered by
snow then isn't it also cross-country?)
Ski Mountaineers Pass has scree on both of its sides during the summer, but
the angle is
moderate, and it may be passable in the winter or spring: a cornice has
formed here, however
so exercise caution....
The best Alternate may be to bypass the entire Kings-Kern Divide by
crossing Shepherd Pass
and then Junction Pass. ...(Leave PCT just before Tyndall Creek Crossing
east over the 2 passes
and exit thru Center Basin to rejoin PCT-- Shepard ~ 12000; Junction 13300)
( my added comments )

Several weeks ago PCT-L emails discussed an alternate to Forrester Pass
if it has a severe snow cornice on the south side. Writers suggested
taking Ski Mountaineers Pass, which they said is near Forrester. I don't
find Ski Mountaineers Pass on any topo maps. The topos do reveal a less
steep slope over the summit a few hundred yards east of Forrester. Is
that Ski Mountaineers Pass?
