1. Ice axe, instep crampons, extra down layer, colder rated sleeping bag,
consider ultra-light snow shoes (!), good fleece gloves, balaclava, long
underwear, waterproofed boots rather than trail shoes, tent that will shed snow rather
than tarp.
2. A ten mile day in the High Sierra with snow coverage is a good day. You
might be able to do a few 15 mile days in better conditions.
