(1) keep an eye on the List for someone asking for assistance;
(2) advertise on this List just what it is you are prepared to offer as way of assistance;
(3) go to where ever the nearest  Trail Register/Log is located and leave a note attached to the log giving your name and telephone number;
(4)assuming you go to the ADZ, circulate you are willing to help hikers in what particular    section(s).

Go for it   :)  Helping out some hikers is extremely rewarding.
