I remember 1977-78.  At Mammouth they closed down on the 4th of July NOT because of low snow, but because people weren't coming to ski in the summer!

Everything below the pass was still under five to eight feet of snow.? The lake just below the pass was frozen over and covered with snow.? My friend exclaimed, "I'm not hiking down into that frozen waste!"?.........
