For example, last year the snow on the Tuolumne River headwaters (Donahue
Pass to Dorothy Lake Pass on the PCT) was 172% of normal on the first week of
February, as was the Stanislans River headwaters (Sonora Pass to Carson Pass
on the PCT). By April 1st, they were at 72% and 74%, respectively.
This week, the Tuolumne River headwaters is at 182% and the Stanislaus at
184%.
In other words, all planning is for naught until the nature of the melt
becomes apparent.
