[pct-l] Kearsarge Pass resupply

>From South Lake Tahoe to Independence is perhaps 5 hours, maybe a bit more.
>From LA less than 4 hours, depending on where and when in LA <g>.

The 13 miles from Independence to Onion Valley is paved, although narrow and
winding.

I consider Onion Valley "nice," but it is drier and less shaded than many
would expect a 9,000 foot Sierra trailhead to be.

The hike from Onion Valley to the PCT is short, but does involve 3,000 of
elevation gain, and the trail only passes immediately by one lake. While
most consider it scenic, I've taken several less-experienced hikers over it
who found it quite a workout for one day.

Pass Trailhead from South Lake Tahoe? What about from L.A.? Is the
road from Hwy 395 to Onion Valley even paved? Finally, is the
Kearsarge Pass Trailhead "nice"... a place that someone wouldn't mind
hanging out for a couple hours?
