[pct-l] Technology on the Trail

Well Mark, you should have seen Potato Picker on the PCT
in 2003. He carried a tie JUST IN CASE he met a beautiful
woman on the trail! :) No kidding! :) :) :)

(BTW, that was a nice post!)

Why don't people want constant music to accompany their lives? Why
doesn't everybody use a cell phone? Why do people feel the need to
enter the wilderness without a GPS? Why do people pierce their nose?
Why do people enjoy math? Why do people voluntarily eat asparagus? Why
on earth do people wear ties? And most importantly, why do people care?
(except for the ties - that's just silly!)

The answer is:
Because they do. Now you just have to learn to live with it. (of course
there's no learning to live with ties - that's crazy talk)

As to the question of what ever happened to social norms of behavior,
they are in a constant state of flux. And that's a good thing.
Otherwise women would still be in the kitchen, gays would be locked up
in jails, asylums or closets and black people would know their place.
Of course, some people will always believe that these changes go
against the natural order of things. (like ties... shouldn't there be a
law against them? I'm serious)

In the words of the wise Mr. King: Can't we all just get along?

Mark - who hopes never to see somebody in the wilderness wearing a tie
